Following the rejection of its immigration initiative, the Swiss People's Party is shifting focus toward neutrality, EU relations, border security, and energy independence.

After the defeat of its 'No to 10 million' initiative on June 14th, the Swiss People's Party (SVP) is recalibrating its strategy. The party has identified four key areas for future national referendums.

Neutrality and Foreign Policy: On September 27th, voters will decide on the 'Neutrality Initiative', spearheaded by the Pro Schweiz organization. This proposal seeks to constitutionally cement Swiss neutrality, effectively barring participation in military alliances like NATO and restricting the government's ability to impose international sanctions.

EU Relations: The upcoming 'Bilateral III' package of treaties, expected for a 2027 vote, faces fierce opposition from the SVP. The party characterizes these agreements as a 'treaty of submission', warning that they would erode Swiss sovereignty and subordinate the nation to Brussels.

Border Security: Citing concerns over criminal activity among asylum seekers, the SVP is pushing for more rigorous and systematic border controls to curb unauthorized migration.

Energy Sovereignty: Finally, the party aims to achieve 'electricity sovereignty'. They advocate for a self-reliant energy grid, seeking to decouple Switzerland from the European electricity network to ensure a secure and independent power supply.
