Authorities have declared a level 3 heatwave warning across much of Switzerland, with the Basel region facing the most severe alert level.
The Swiss Federal Office for Meteorology and Climatology, Météo Suisse, has issued a significant heat warning effective from Thursday. While large portions of the country are under a level 3 alert, the cantons of Basel City and Basel Country have been placed under the highest level of caution.
Meteorologists warn that the country will experience sustained high temperatures with no significant relief during the night for at least three consecutive days. Health officials emphasize that this extreme weather poses substantial risks, including potential circulatory issues and general physical distress.
The public is urged to remain hydrated, stay in shaded areas, and minimize strenuous physical activity. These safety measures are expected to remain in effect until Tuesday at 8pm.
